- No points are taken off for a wrong answer, so answer every question. A blank counts the same as a wrong answer.
- No calculator. Use scratch paper.
- This quick test is a short sample of the full practice test. It shows raw scores only; the estimated scaled range is given for full practice tests.
How the short test compares with the full test
Same sections in the same order, with a fraction of the questions and the clocks scaled to match: 6 Verbal Reasoning, 5 Quantitative Reasoning, 6 Reading Comprehension, 5 Mathematics Achievement.
| Section | Quick: questions | Quick: time | Full: questions | Full: time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Verbal Reasoning | 6 | 3:00 | 40 | 20 min |
| Quantitative Reasoning | 5 | 4:45 | 37 | 35 min |
| Reading Comprehension | 6 | 5:50 | 36 | 35 min |
| Mathematics Achievement | 5 | 4:15 | 47 | 40 min |
| All | 22 | 17:50 | 160 | 130 min |
The quick test is 17 min 50 s of timed testing, plus the time to read the directions and move between sections.
What it is not: a prediction. With so few questions in a section, one question moves it a long way, so the quick test shows raw scores only: no estimated scaled range and no percentile.

Questions about the short ISEE Upper practice test
How long is the short ISEE Upper practice test?
22 questions and about 18 minutes: 17:50 of timed testing in all. Each section has its own short clock, so the test is quick but still has the shape of the real one.
Is this the real ISEE?
No. It is a short practice test written by us in the published ISEE Upper Level format, with a few questions of each skill and clocks that follow the pace of the real test. The real test has 160 questions.
Is the short test free?
Yes. No email and no sign-up. When it ends you see the score of each section and each skill, and the answer and explanation of every question (all 22 of them: no section has more than 10 questions).
Can the short test predict my child's ISEE score?
No. With a handful of questions in a section, one question moves that section by many percentage points, so we show raw scores only, with no scaled score, estimate or percentile. Use it as a first look at the format and at which skills need work, then take the full free test.
What should we do after the short test?
Take the full free ISEE Upper Level practice test (160 questions, 130 minutes of testing) when you have the time. The result of the short test already shows which sections to watch.
