Free SSAT practice test: full length, on the clock
The SSAT Middle and Upper Levels each have 150 scored questions: 60 verbal, 50 quantitative and 40 reading, with five answer choices and no calculator. A right answer scores 1 point, a wrong answer costs a quarter of a point and a blank costs nothing. Those are the test organization's numbers, linked below. Our free test practices all 150 scored questions; it is written by us and is not the real test.
- SSAT Middle Level: 150 questions in four timed sections, 130 minutes
- SSAT Upper Level: 150 questions in four timed sections, 130 minutes
Which SSAT level? Start with the grade your child is applying to
| Applying to | Level | Our full test | Start |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grades 6-8 | SSAT Middle Level | 150 questions, four sections, 130 min | Free full test Quick test |
| Grades 9 to postgraduate | SSAT Upper Level | 150 questions, four sections, 130 min | Free full test Quick test |
The level follows the grade your child is applying to. E3n's levels: students now in grades 5-7 take the Middle Level, students in grades 8-11 the Upper Level. The SSAT also has an Elementary Level for grades 3-4; we have no practice for it.
What a free SSAT practice test gives you
The format, start to finish
All the questions of the level and every section on its own clock, in the order of the real test, so your child knows what the pace feels like.
A score for each section and skill
Right answers in every section, and inside each section by skill, with where the time went.
Explanations you can read together
Plain explanations for the first 10 questions of each section, free. With a plan, every question.
No percentile from us: our practice forms are not equated to the real test. You get right, wrong and blank, the formula raw score, the score by skill, and on full tests a scaled range marked estimated, unofficial.

Questions about SSAT practice
Which SSAT level should my child practice?
Go by E3n's grade bands: a student now in grades 5-7 (applying to grades 6-8) takes the Middle Level, and a student now in grades 8-11 (applying to grade 9 through a postgraduate year) takes the Upper Level.
Is there a penalty for guessing on the SSAT?
On Middle and Upper, yes: a wrong answer costs a quarter of a point and a blank costs nothing. E3n's Candidate Handbook adds a rule of thumb: if you can rule out two of the five choices, a guess can be worthwhile. Source: admission.org/advice/guessing-on-the-ssat-good-or-bad.
Why does your test have 150 questions when the real SSAT has more?
150 is the number of scored questions. The real test also has a 16-question experimental section that does not count, and a writing sample that is not scored. We leave both out of the timed test. Writing is practiced apart, and nobody grades it.
Do your questions come from the test maker?
No. Every question is written by us from the format E3n describes. The test organization sells its own practice, with its own tests; our pricing page compares the two.
What do I get for $69?
SSAT Practice Tests ($69) opens all eight of our full timed practice tests, the free ones included (SSAT Middle: four; SSAT Upper: four), with an explanation for every question, the result report by section and by skill after each test, the mistake notebook and writing prompts with a self-check list.
Does one purchase cover every SSAT level?
Yes. SSAT Practice Tests opens every SSAT level we have, for one student and 12 months.
How fast do we get access?
The moment the payment goes through. The next page has the button to your dashboard, and we email a sign-in link. There is no password: on another device you enter the email you paid with and we send a 6‑digit code.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once and keep access for 12 months. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.
Can I get my money back?
Yes. Write to [email protected] within 14 days of purchase and we refund the full price, no reason needed, as long as no more than one paid test has been started. If something is broken on our side, tell us at any time: we fix it, or refund you in full if we cannot.
Who charges my card?
Payment is processed by Creem, our merchant of record; we never see your card number.
Is the purchase for one child?
Yes. Access is for one student. Brothers and sisters each need their own purchase, so each has their own results and mistake notebook.
