Free ISEE Upper Level practice test: 160 questions, every section timed
A free full-length ISEE Upper Level practice test for students applying to grades 9-12: 160 questions in four timed sections, 130 minutes of testing, at the counts and clocks of the real test. The real Upper Level scores 139 of its 160 questions and leaves 21 unscored without saying which; ours counts all 160. No sign-up. It is one of four full tests for this level.
Written by us in the published ISEE Upper Level format. Not the real test, and not affiliated with E3n.
Practice Test 1 · 160 questions · four timed sections
Both free: no email, no sign-up. Full test: each section's clock starts when the section opens and cannot be paused.
- Verbal Reasoning20:0040 questions
- Quantitative Reasoning35:0037 questions
- Reading Comprehension35:0036 questions
- Mathematics Achievement40:0047 questions
- Each of the four sections has its own clock. When the time for a section is up, the section ends and the next one begins.
- No points are taken off for a wrong answer, so answer every question. A blank counts the same as a wrong answer.
- No calculator. Use scratch paper.
- All 160 questions here count toward your raw score. The real ISEE also mixes in 21 unscored questions that look the same as the rest.
- The real ISEE ends with a 30-minute essay that is not scored; the schools you choose receive a copy with your score report. It is not in the timed test; practice it with the writing prompts in your dashboard.

Sample report · ISEE Upper Level practice test
A sample result: 99 of 160 correct, with the score and the time of each section, and the score of each skill.
A sample report from a made-up run of the free test, scored by the same code as yours. Yours appears the moment the last section ends.
Right answers by section
Out of 40, 37, 36 and 47, plus how many questions your child reached before each clock ran out.
By skill inside each section
synonyms; sentence completion; word problems; quantitative comparison; reading: where the points were lost.
Estimated, unofficial
Estimated, unofficial scaled range, 760-940 per section. Basis: the ends of the practice-test conversion tables in E3n/ERB's 2021 What to Expect guide for this level, joined by a straight line and shown as a 30-point range. Our forms are not equated to the real ISEE, and the real ISEE reports no total score. How the score works.
Explanations
For the first 10 questions of each section, free; for every question with a plan.
E3n reports a percentile and a stanine against applicants of the same grade, and publishes no table that turns our practice forms into them, so we show your raw score by section and by skill and an estimated scaled range per section, never a percentile or a stanine.

Questions about the free ISEE Upper practice test
My child is in 8th grade. Is this the right level?
Yes, if your child is applying to 9th grade. The level follows the grade applying to, not the current grade.
How much math does the Upper Level reach?
E3n describes the range of Mathematics Achievement as running up to second-year algebra at the Upper Level. No calculator is allowed, so the numbers are meant to work by hand.
Is this the real ISEE?
No. It is a practice test written by us in the published ISEE Upper Level format: the same sections, the same number of questions and the same time for each section. The real test is given by the test organization and your school.
Is this ISEE Upper Level practice test really free?
Yes. The whole test, all four sections, with the result by section and skill and the explanations for the first 10 questions of each section. No email and no sign-up.
Does my child have to take all four sections in one sitting?
Each section runs on its own clock. Inside a section the clock never stops: a refresh or a closed tab does not pause it. Between sections the clock is stopped, so your child can take a break, or stop for the day and start the next section later; the answers so far are saved on that device. Plan about 130 minutes of testing.
Can my child skip questions and come back?
Inside a section, yes: our test lets your child skip a question and come back to it before that section's clock runs out. Time left in one section does not carry over to the next.
Is there a penalty for guessing?
No points are taken off for a wrong answer, so answer every question. A blank counts the same as a wrong answer.
Does the practice test include the writing section?
The real ISEE ends with a 30-minute essay that is not scored; schools you choose get a copy. It is not in our timed test. Your child practices it apart, with prompts and a self-check list in the dashboard of ISEE Practice Tests. We do not grade essays.
Why an estimated range and no percentile?
Our forms are not equated to the real test, so we cannot say where your child would rank. We show an estimated scaled range, marked unofficial, from points the test organization publishes; no percentile.
About the paid plan
What do I get for $69?
ISEE Practice Tests ($69) opens all 12 of our full timed practice tests, the free ones included (ISEE Lower: four; ISEE Middle: four; ISEE Upper: four), with an explanation for every question, the result report by section and by skill after each test, the mistake notebook and writing prompts with a self-check list.
Does one purchase cover every ISEE level?
Yes. ISEE Practice Tests opens every ISEE level we have, for one student and 12 months.
How fast do we get access?
The moment the payment goes through. The next page has the button to your dashboard, and we email a sign-in link. There is no password: on another device you enter the email you paid with and we send a 6‑digit code.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once and keep access for 12 months. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.
Can I get my money back?
Yes. Write to [email protected] within 14 days of purchase and we refund the full price, no reason needed, as long as no more than one paid test has been started. If something is broken on our side, tell us at any time: we fix it, or refund you in full if we cannot.
Who charges my card?
Payment is processed by Creem, our merchant of record; we never see your card number.
Is the purchase for one child?
Yes. Access is for one student. Brothers and sisters each need their own purchase, so each has their own results and mistake notebook.
